BTS of this photoshoot
Background
This photoshoot was a portrait session for Angela. This is one of my favorite types of photoshoots as it is one-on-one so the client and I can really connect and bring her vision to life. It was not tied to an event like a competition, family photoshoot or her job. She wanted some updated pictures for her social feeds and to hang around the house so we could be as creative as we wanted!
Location
The location is always huge, I have my favorite go to locations around the Cleveland area but as I always say, I am here for the client. Before the shoot, I ask if they have a location in mind or need some suggestions.
More on this, I do not have a preference for where we shoot as long as I know I can deliver what the client wants. I personally love when a client does have a location in mind because they will have more emotional tie to it as well as be more comfortable since it will be a familiar environment. On the flip side, if they don't know the location, it could increase some anxiety about the shoot. Conversely, I also like to see and shoot in new locations, I even get into a lot of places where I normally wouldn't have access.
Angela and I ultimately chose Everett Road Covered Bridge in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park as it gave us some different looks and options from a structure (Bridge) to a good nature backdrop with trees, creek, water and rocks.
Poses
We were looking to capture some of the popular poses you see on social media but also some classier ones for her brand. From the pictures below, you can see she has a natural ability to Smize (Smile with your eyes) as well as a nice soft smile for that classic look. It took minimal coaching from me on how to pose which is great as she felt comfortable in front of the camera. I only had to advise her on a few small adjustments and let her do the rest.
